About 6 months ago, I left my comfortable home and moved to Zimbabwe. I had this grandiose idea that I was going to empower women in Africa. Little did I know that I would in turn be empowered. Prior to going to Zimbabwe, I had lived in Canada for 18 years. Moving to Canada with $5 as a refugee and eventually building what I consider a successful business, I thought I really knew how I could solve the African poverty situation. It didn’t take long before I was humbled and learnt that African women also want a 21st century approach to their problems. They are tired of charities that donate goats and sewing machines. If we are going to see real poverty alleviation, we need to go into those uncharted territories and understand life in a day of bring the 3rd world countries with us
